Description

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and Louisiana Sea Grant are partnering to offer a one-day Volunteer Instructor Program (VIP) workshop to provide education professionals with hands-on classroom activities and lessons. The workshop will prepare you for volunteering at an LDWF event or teaching your students about fisheries science. Topics covered include fish identification, fisheries management, pond ecology and invasive species. Upon completion, all volunteers receive a binder with lesson plans, activity guides and other educational resources. You will also have access to LDWF loaner kits that will contain the materials needed to teach these difficult topics. The loaner kits range from dissection supplies to fishing poles with tackle. Lunch and childcare will be provided. We recognize that finding childcare for professional development opportunities can be challenging. Therefore, we will be providing a simultaneous educational enrichment program for students of participants (ages 5 – 12). This way families can share in this experience. There is a limit to the number of students per teacher.

Louisiana Sea Grant is involved in the development and support of several educational projects. These projects strive to engage individuals with cultural, environmental, and historical aspects of Louisiana. Participants have the opportunity to experience the Louisiana wetlands through hands-on, interactive activities. The projects showcase the importance of the wetlands for Louisiana and understand the need to conserve them.
