About the Exhibition: Be the Astronaut, February 4 – June 5, 2023 Be the Astronaut is a world-class exhibition experience that teaches STEM-based content via a fusion of state-of-the art video game technology and traditional exhibitory. In the exhibition, visitors learn about the challenges and excitement of spaceflight -- then apply that knowledge as they fly the spaceships, pilot the landers, and drive the rovers, in a thrilling narrative adventure to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, Ceres, and Jupiter. The focus of the exhibition is on the concepts common to all space flight and so uses the narrative of a possible future space mission, as opposed to any particular historic mission, as the framework to communicate these ideas. The exhibit is available during standard Sci-Port operating hours.
Sci-Port Discovery Center
Sci-Port Discovery Center provides a fun, immersive environment for people of all ages to explore and actively engage in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Sci-Port serves to spark curiosity and inspire a passion for lifelong learning by utilizing hands-on, scientific discovery activities. Sci-Port Discovery Center is a 92,000 square-foot science and entertainment center made up of Louisiana’s Science and Space Center (LSSC), Power of Play (POP) Children’s Museum and Louisiana’s only IMAX® Dome Theatre. LSSC includes over 200 hands-on exhibits, interactive programs and demonstrations and the Sawyer Space Dome Planetarium. POP is a kid-sized Shreveport-Bossier where kids ages 8 and under can learn through the power of play. The IMAX® Dome Theatre immerses guests in award-winning films through state-of-the-art technology. Center accolades include Best Science Attraction for Kids in Louisiana, Attraction of the Year in Louisiana, and one of Parents magazine top ten science centers in the nation. Sci-Port is a member of the Association of Science-Technology Centers, the Association of Children’s Museums and the LA Space Consortium.
