Description

ST3 involves classroom laboratory experiences focused on General Biology curriculum; the goal of the ST3 is to help all teachers become more comfortable with science content and the use of scientific hardware by providing training and equipment. This year ST3 is partnering with The Summer Algae Summer Science Institute (SASI) to offer a 1-Day Face-to-Face professional development workshop for K-12 educators. The program is not intended for attendees to participate for multiple years. However, if spots are open, we will invite previous attendees for a refresher Website: https://thealgaefoundation.org/institute.html SASI is appropriate for K-12 STEM educators with NGSS aligned curriculum broken down into Elementary, Middle and High School levels. SASI participants will have the opportunity to teach the Algae Academy to their students in the 2023/2024 academic year in the Fall (October) or Spring (March). The Algae Academy’s FREE STEM kit and curriculum includes teacher resources, all necessary lab supplies, and live algae that will have your students asking big questions as they realize the real potential of algae. Students cultivate algae, monitor its growth, analyze and interpret data, and make connections as to how algae production has a positive impact on the global environment. Or as we like to say, we take algae from “Ick!” to “Awesome!” SASI Training will be on June 16, 2023 at Delgado Community College - City Park Campus Registration: https://forms.gle/en6V1Yr6d7BRxkiK8 SASI training will include: • Stipend for attendance (75$) • I Love Algae T-shirt (the really soft kind) • Algae Academy materials for the training provided by SASI. • Guaranteed spot in 2023/2024 Algae Academy • A complete walkthrough of the Algae Academy’s 5-day curriculum. • Opportunity to hear from industry insiders and gain more in-depth background knowledge. • Ability to troubleshoot how the curriculum would work best in your classroom. If you have any other questions, not answered in the form, please contact Amanda Rosenzweig (arosen@dcc.edu). If you have any questions about the workshop, please reach out to the Algae Foundation’s Marissa Nalley at mnalley@thealgaefoundation.org
