Description

STEM Library Lab is sponsoring a pre-packaged Service Learning Field Trip to Woodlands Conservancy in Belle Chasse, LA. Service Learning ties academic content to relevant, hands-on community service. The program curriculum is aligned with Louisiana science standards for grades 8-12, but grades 5-12 are eligible. Students will learn the part that forested wetlands play in storm mitigation and will be planting native trees in a designated restoration area.

Woodlands Conservancy is a 501-C-3, nonprofit land trust organization created with the mission to preserve and restore forested wetlands and other ecologically or historically significant lands in Louisiana. The vision of Woodlands Conservancy is to be the regional model for the conservation of hardwood forests, and a leader in the advocacy and preservation of Louisiana’s coastal forest ecosystems.
