LCM’s Family Folklife Presents: Stories of the Ways We Play

Do you know the games that your grown-up family members played when they were younger? Grownups, do you know the young folk’s favorite ways to play today? What has changed or stayed the same? Stop by LCM Family Folklife Interview Table with your family members and friends for an intergenerational activity as we tell stories about the ways we play. At our interview station, become familiar with different techniques used to collect family history or stories from others, respectfully and with curiosity! Whether it’s using a special device and microphones for recording “in the field,” using accessible cell phone apps, taking a photograph, or making a drawing to tell a story, practice with your own family as we interview each other and learn about many different favorite games, songs, and dances. We will collect and share stories from the day to understand more about how kids in our city and beyond have played throughout the generations. So come prepared to teach us a hand-clap game or a TikTok dance and add your contribution to our collection for posterity!
