Description

To kick off the year, teachers are invited and strongly encouraged to attend the annual GNOSEF Teacher Workshop at the STEM Library Lab. We will be hosting three different workshops: two on Saturday, August 23rd from 9am-12pm for beginner teachers and from 1-3pm for experienced teachers and one on Saturday, October 4th from 9-11am. Teachers are welcome to attend one or both workshops. Please complete the form below to register for the workshop. Priority is given to teachers from Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, and St. Bernard Parishes.

In order to ensure that you will have a spot in the PD, we are requiring a $20 deposit fee. If attending both workshops, teachers only need to submit one deposit.

Stipends:

  • October 4th – Each teacher will receive a $50 stipend upon completion of the 2-hour workshop.

In order to receive each stipend and the refund of the deposit, teachers must be present for the full time of the workshop(s) for which they register.

Experienced educators will lead presentations offering practical strategies and examples to support teachers in establishing a successful classroom-based science fair program. These sessions will also cover essential information required for participation in the Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF).

The October 4th workshop will build on this foundation by providing additional guidance on project development and the completion of required ISEF forms. Teachers will engage in hands-on practice with sample paperwork, including the research plan.

All participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the two- or three-hour training session, which can be submitted to their school district to request Continuing Learning Unit (CLU) credits. The workshops will also include brief presentations covering the GNOSEF timeline and details on over $60,000 in available awards, prizes, and grants for students, teachers, and schools.

Open to 6th – 12th grade students in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines parishes nominated by their schools or home school associations, it hosts over 300 students annually. The mission of the Greater New Orleans Science & Engineering Fair is to encourage independent student research in science and engineering, to encourage youth to pursue science, math, or engineering careers, and to promote collaboration and interaction between area students and scientists and engineers.
