Description
Down by the River is an educational bike ride in Norco, LA that connects Black history to the environmental justice movement. Our ride is co-led with local community leaders and transforms a litany of depressing sites into powerful beacons of resistance, a lens through which the past and present are applied to today’s environmental movement. Down by the River provides a perspective rooted in the reality of this region’s violent past, applying this history to today’s environmental justice movement.
The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is a strong, action-driven ally to Louisiana communities most impacted by pollution. Since 2000, we’ve worked with towns and neighborhoods next to the state’s oil refineries, gas export terminals and chemical plants. We partner with these fenceline communities to amplify their voices, help residents challenge the petrochemical industry, and build a different economy. Being on the ground week after week in our partner communities is the lifeblood of our work.
