Description
BASIN is raising the next generation of wise water stewards by teaching children about the environment we love, the infrastructure we’ve built, and the Living with Water principles that we’ll need to thrive throughout their lives and beyond.
BASIN is a middle schooler's chance to experience real-world civic engagement and advocacy. Meeting one Saturday a month, March through October, they'll learn about an issue they care about (this year's theme is URBAN HABITAT), identify a problem and create a solution, and present those solutions directly to decisionmakers who can implement them. And believe it or not--those decisionmakers want to hear from out kids.
Last year, when we asked participants if they would attend BASIN again, one immediately said, "Yes. I want to make New Orleans better."
If you have a middle schooler who wants to make New Orleans better by translating their interests and lived experience into solutions to the problems they see, BASIN is the chance for them!
Participants earn a $20 stipend for each session they attend, and we always have snacks.
