Wind energy is a fast-growing industry in the US, and it is expected that create over 50,000 new jobs through 2030, in a variety of disciplines. This is a tremendous opportunity for our community and students! We are excited to announce this groundbreaking program to generate interest amongst students in Orleans Parish about this fast growing, well-paying, and sustainable industry. We would love the opportunity to train you in this emerging industry, as we know our teachers have an immense impact on students and their career paths!
WE LEAD NOLA is open to all Orleans parish high school teachers and will provide cutting edge training about offshore wind, as well as teach you about career opportunities for your students.
We will select 10 Orleans parish teachers for this first cohort as WE LEAD NOLA Associates. These Associates will be given in depth trainings about the wind energy industry and hands on workshops that teach how to build small scale wind turbines. The program will culminate in the KidWind Offshore Wind Challenge being held on January 30, 2025, where the WE LEAD Associates, and their students will build a small scale floating offshore wind turbine for testing and compete with the other WE LEAD NOLA teams!
The accepted WE LEAD Associates will be provided a $1,000 stipend as well as a $500 budget for materials! Winners of the culminating KidWind Challenge will be eligible for additional prizes and to compete in the 2025 KidWind Worlds competition against international teams!
